When you want to get away from it all in the winter months you often think of skiing and snowboarding, or perhaps a cosy log cabin in the middle of nowhere. But what if there was somewhere you could go that didn’t mean flying halfway around the world, and that offered unbroken sunshine? Well, we’ve found it, and it’s called Phoenix, Arizona. Here’s 7 reasons you need to head there this winter.

It’s easy to navigate, no matter the time of year

When the east coast is waist deep in snow and blowing a gale, Phoenix is still warm and sunny. That means when you book your transportation you know it’s always going to turn up on time, exactly when you need it. Ideal if you want to get out there, enjoy the local area, and make the most of a holiday you’ll remember forever.

The hiking season is another name for winter!

Hiking is the name of the game in the winter months because you’ll have that little bit of respite from the peak summer sun that you need to keep trekking for as far as the eye can see. If you want to go and explore a true desert wilderness that offers you something different from every angle, you need to get yourself on the road to Phoenix as soon as you’re done reading this article.

There’s plenty of live music in the outdoor marketplaces

Whilst many major cities around the world will be packing into overcrowded malls and shopping precincts, Phoenix allows you to take a casual stroll through the outdoor markets. The weather means you won’t have to wrap up like an arctic explorer, and that means there’ll be plenty of live musicians and other entertainers out and about. Ideal if you want to really connect with the local culture.

You’re never too far from the mountains

The mountains are what Arizona is known for, so why not take a few days to walk them? It’s an experience you’ll never forget, and some of the mountain views will leave you truly speechless.

All you have to do is decide which one you want to go and see first, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and take some stunning snaps when you reach the summit. Perfect if you want to capture some magical moments that will stay with you for a lifetime.

If you love the fairway, golf season is ready and waiting

Golfing is a great way to rest and relax, and if you want to perfect your swing without having to resort to teeing off indoors, Phoenix is the place to be. In fact it’s so warm and golf-friendly, you’ll be able to enjoy 18 holes on Christmas Eve if you want to. Perfect for seeing in the festivities by enjoying the one game you just can’t ever seem to get enough time to play when you’re back home.

You could also head out for a brisk morning walk as the sun comes up, a jog in the evenings, or a dip in a local pool if the mood takes you. When it comes to the winter season, Phoenix really is the only corner of the US that doesn’t change all that much. Ideal when you don’t want anything to get in the way of your dream break from it all.

The desert comes to life in the winter

The beauty of Phoenix is that it’s right in the middle of the desert. You might think that this means all you’re going to see is sand and wilderness for miles around, but after you’ve spent a day or two there you’ll realise there’s so much more to it than that.

Desert plant-life really comes into its own in the winter — blossoming and flourishing whilst the plants you’re used to seeing back home either die off or go into stasis. This allows you to see a whole new side to nature as you take in the vibrant colours and aromas that you’ll only find when Phoenix is in full bloom.

You can pack your shorts and flip flops

Finally, the great thing about Phoenix in the winter is that you can enjoy it any way you like. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you have to wrap up warm, go everywhere in your car, and always have thick winter boots on.

In fact, the climate is so welcoming that you can often stroll out the door in your shorts and flip flops if that’s what you feel like doing. It’s part of what makes Phoenix the perfect destination of choice for those of you who want a little boost and surge of happiness when the days have shortened and the weather has turned.
